Due to how buckshot has unreliable damage, an average(4 pellets) is used to determine damage.

This tool would not have been possible without the help of Reddit user Gews, who explained how the maths behind damage dropoff in DayZ works to WOBO. Thank you Gews!

About DayZ Damage Drop-off

A weapons Base Damage, Air Friction, Initial Speed, Typical Speed and Default Damage Override stats determine when a weapon or ammo type will drop-off in damage AND how quickly it drops off in damage.

Most weapons in DayZ are immediately impacted by damage dropping off over distance once fired. Moreover, when shooting players at a very long distance in DayZ, damage drop-off impacts weapon damage significantly.

Beyond a certain distance in DayZ, it becomes better to aim for the head of a player to inflict maximum damage and have any chance of one-shoting them with a burst of damage.

Note that projectile based weapons calculate damage drop off differently to weapons that fire rounds. Therefore, projectile weapons are not exact on this chart, instead showing a rough average of how their damage drops off.

About DayZ Weapons

Weapons in DayZ can be split into serveral weapon categories that are as follows: Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Sub Machine Guns, Rifles, Shotguns, Pistols and Projectile Firearms.

DayZ weapons have a lot of stats that impact how a weapon will react to different situations. These stats can be changed slightly or drastically by attaching attachments to your weapons in DayZ.

Rifles are long firearms that are powerful and can hit targets accurately at range. Making them a great choice stealthy players that like to shoot from a distance.

Shotguns are incredible dangerous up close, but lack in effectiveness at medium and especially long distance. Shotguns are best used in urban combat for this reason.

Handguns are compact firearms that can only be shot and handled with one hand. They are less powerful and accurate than rifles, but they are more concealable and portable. They are classified into several categories, including revolvers and pistols. While the cylinder of a revolver rotates in place of a magazine, the magazine of a handgun may hold a significant number of rounds.
