There is a particular kind of ammunition in DayZ called 9x39 rounds. Due to its high stopping power and ability to effectively take down targets at medium ranges, it is beneficial for survivors to find this ammo and use it with one of the compatible weapons in DayZ. 9x39 rounds are a great option for players who prefer to go in secrecy because they are also fairly quiet due to not creating a weapon crack. 5.45x39 Rounds
The 5.45x39 round was initially one of the fastest bullets in the game, but the 5.45x39 round still has a high speed bullet. The 5.45x39 Rounds are considered a heavy ammo type and will stun infected.
5.56x45 Rounds
The 5.56x45 rounds are on of the best rounds for penetration, but also comes with good damage and bullet speed. 5.56 by 45 rifle rounds are commonly found in military loot spawns and are used by a wide variety of assault rifles in DayZ. The 5.56x45 Rounds are considered a heavy ammo type and will stun infected.
7.62x39 Rounds
The 7.62x39 round inflicts good damage but the 7.62x39's bullet doesn't fly as fast as other similar bullet ammo types commonly used by assault rifles in DayZ. The 7.62x39 Rounds are considered a heavy ammo type and will stun infected.
9x39 Armour Piercing Rounds
The Armour Piercing variants of the 9x39 do a lot more damage to armour, but the same damage to the player. 9x39 AP rounds have a very low bullet speed, but have moderate damage and are always subsonic in DayZ. The 9x39 AP Rounds are considered a heavy ammo type and will stun infected.
DayZ Intermediate Caliber Category
Not large enough to be Rifle rounds, but still pack a punch and have some great stats. The firearms that use these Rifle bullets are usually Assault Rifles in DayZ. Intermediate caliber rounds are bigger than pistol caliber bullets but smaller than standard rifle rounds. They're used in weapons like assault rifles and submachine guns, and they're meant to have more range and power than pistol rounds while being more compact and lightweight than rifle rounds. 5.56x45mm NATO, 5.45x39mm, 7.62x39mm, and 7.62x51mm NATO are all common Intermediate Caliber rounds. The M4 carbine, AK-47, and M16 rifle are among common weapons that employ Intermediate Caliber ammunition.

DayZ ammo types have a lot of stats that impact how the ammo will perform with the weapon it goes with. Based on these stats, choosing the right ammo type with your weapon can make a big difference.
Most weapons in DayZ only have one ammo type. However, some weapons allow two or more ammo types, and can therefore impact the perform of the weapon based on the ammunition you use.
The bullets or shells that are fired from firearms are referred to as ammunition. There are many distinct kinds of ammunition, each with special qualities and purposes of their own. The most typical varieties include: Ammunition that fires from the rim of the cartridge case uses a primer positioned there. Smaller guns, like .22 caliber handguns and rifles, commonly use rimfire ammo. Ammunition used in centerfire rifles has a primer in the middle of the cartridge case. Larger weaponry, like .38 caliber handguns and rifles, often use centerfire ammo.
Shotgun shells: These are used with shotguns to fire a number of tiny pellets, or "shot," at the intended target. Ammunition for pistols and revolvers: These are often rounds like the .38 special, .357 magnum, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. Ammunition for rifles: This includes bullets with calibers like .22, .223, .308, .30-06, and .300 Winchester Magnum.
Each of these ammunition types can have a variety of characteristics, including velocities, energies, ranges, penetration, and expansion. Due to the longer barrel of a rifle, which allows for a higher velocity and energy, rifle ammunition often has a higher destructive capacity than pistol ammo. Despite their strength, shotgun shells often only deal damage inside a smaller area. Rifle ammunition has a far greater range than pistol or shotgun ammunition.
Regarding characteristics, some ammunition might be built to spread out upon contact, producing a bigger wound, while others might be built to pierce deeply. When fired, some ammunition may shatter upon impact, causing a number of smaller wounds. Various bullet types exist as well, including full metal jacket, hollow point, soft point, boat tail, etc.
